Each bottle is adorned with The Samurai Scientist – Jōkichi Takamine – who pioneered koji fermentation in the American whisky industry over a century ago.

WhistlePig Boss Hog Edition VI 六:  Tasting Notes

Nose: Cinnamon, maple syrup, and toasted marshmallow

Palate: Bold, with tobacco, ginger, baking spices, and savory umami

Finish: Long, with oak spice, char, and just a touch of smoke

WhistlePig began when we purchased our farm in 2007. After a few years of deep consideration and personal reflection, we committed ourselves to craft the world’s finest and most interesting Rye Whiskeys.

Today, WhistlePig announced that 1,000 bottles of The Samurai Scientist in the US have had their labels printed in Japanese and the silver/gray pewter topper replaced with a black topper, a limited run they’re dubbing The Samurai Scientist Katakana Edition.

About the distillery

WhistlePig Whiskey is located on one of the oldest farms in Vermont, USA. Former Master Distiller, Dave Pickerel, a luminary in the world of whiskey, was one of the nation’s pre-eminent master distillers. Before joining WhistlePig, Dave spent 14 years as Maker’s Mark Master Distiller in Loretto, Kentucky. Despite his passing in 2018, he helped the WhistlePig team create the standard in what he regards as his “magnum opus”: WhistlePig 100% Straight Rye Whiskey.
